Diagnosis and Ongoing Health Struggles
Since her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2021, actress Christina Applegate has faced numerous challenges related to her health. Recently, she revealed that she has been hospitalized more than 30 times due to complications stemming from the autoimmune disorder.

On a recent episode of her podcast, MeSsy, co-hosted with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Applegate shared her personal experiences while addressing a listener’s struggles with gastrointestinal issues. She candidly noted, “Three years since I was diagnosed, I’ve been in the hospital upwards of 30 times from throwing up and diarrhea and pain.”
Describing the Unimaginable Effects
Applegate spoke about the myriad tests and procedures she has undergone as part of her treatment, expressing frustration with some of the feedback from healthcare providers. “They’ve done every test known to man on me… And literally just in the last month, I have figured it out,” she conveyed, highlighting her ongoing quest for effective treatment.
Complications Related to Organ Function
Addressing a listener’s concerns, Applegate emphasized the importance of communication with medical professionals regarding motility issues. She elaborated, “One of the things with MS is that it slows down our organs. Not completely, but there is a slowing of the function of your organs.” The actress went on to explain her own distressing symptoms, stating, “If I have to poop, I puke. And when I puke, I get all the pain, and then all the things happen.”
Finding Humor Amidst the Pain
Despite the seriousness of her condition, Applegate has been able to find moments of levity in her ordeal, quipping about the complexity of her symptoms: “There’s like this really horrible argument, and I call it the fight club. It’s like everyone’s fighting with each other.”
Current Health Status
In a recent update, Applegate mentioned being in a significant relapse that has affected both her physical and mental well-being. “I’m in relapse right now, pretty bad… I haven’t slept for 24 hours because my eye is doing something weird,” she explained, highlighting the toll the condition continues to take on her daily life.
Furthermore, the actress also shared her difficulties with mobility, expressing, “My legs have never been this bad… can’t get circulation, I can’t get them to stop hurting.”
