The Bush Family Insights: The Next Generation’s Aspirations

Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Bush, daughters of former President George W. Bush and granddaughters of George H.W. Bush, recently opened up about their children and the family legacy during a conversation with People magazine. While neither of them anticipates their children will pursue political careers, there’s a shared sentiment that the values and characteristics of their parents are being carried forward into the next generation.

Children’s Aspirations Beyond Politics

In the interview published on March 26, Jenna disclosed that her children—Mila (9), Poppy (11), and Hal (5)—do not express ambitions to enter the political arena. “I don’t think any of my kids are thinking political,” Jenna explained, emphasizing, “None of my children are like, ‘Let me be the president.”

Barbara echoed this sentiment regarding her own children, Cora Georgia (3) and 7-month-old Edward, stating that political aspirations have not been voiced, with the toddler currently focused on more immediate concerns like “milk.”

A Glimpse into Family Traits

Despite their lack of political ambition, the sisters shared that their children exhibit traits reminiscent of their parents and grandparents. In particular, Barbara mentioned that Cora is showing a blend of qualities from both Laura Bush and George H.W. Bush, indicating an evolution of the family legacy.

Cora’s Creative Spirit

“We’re still learning who she is, but she’s very gentle, which I would say is Mom, and she’s very creative. She loves making stuff,” Barbara noted, reflecting on Cora’s personality. “To our surprise,” she continued, “that creativity comes from my dad, who’s an artist and a painter.” Cora has expressed a desire to emulate her grandfather’s artistic journey, showing a keen interest in painting with him.

Barbara stated, “She loves nothing more than getting to go to [Grandpa’s] studio with him and paint,” mentioning that Cora hopes to follow in his footsteps as an artist. George W. Bush has pursued a post-presidential career in art, publishing two books titled Out of Many, One and Portraits of Courage.

Continuing the Family Legacy

George W. Bush recently welcomed his youngest grandson, Edward Finn Coyne, who was born on August 4, 2024. Celebrating the new addition, he shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, reflecting on the pride he and Laura Bush feel in their expanding family. “Welcome to the world, Edward Finn Coyne,” he wrote, highlighting the joy of family connections and traditions that continue to flourish.

The Bush sisters’ thoughts on their children reveal a family still grounded in connection and legacy, demonstrating that while the next generation may not pursue political office, they carry forward the values of creativity, gentleness, and familial pride.
