A Journal Designed to Bring Clarity to the Complexity of Cancer Treatment

The Cancerkit is a cancer treatment journal created to help patients navigate treatment with greater clarity, structure, and emotional support.

When Iselin Johannessen was diagnosed with stage II triple-negative breast cancer at the age of 35, the news was overwhelming. From chemotherapy to surgery, radiation, and immunotherapy, each day presented new hurdles. Alongside the physical and emotional toll of treatment, she also experienced cognitive fog, often referred to as “chemo brain.”

It was during these difficult moments that Iselin realized the need for a tool to help cancer patients regain a sense of control and structure. This led to the creation of The Cancerkit, a cancer treatment journal designed to support patients through the complexities of their cancer journey.

A Personal Journey Turns Into Purpose

The Cancerkit was born out of a personal need, not from a wellness trend. In searching for support, Iselin found that most planners on the market focused on general wellness, rather than the real and immediate challenges of cancer treatment. “When I was going through treatment, I didn’t need more advice or empty reassurance. I needed clarity and structure, and a way to keep track of what my brain simply couldn’t,” says Iselin.

During her treatment, Iselin found it difficult to manage medical appointments, treatment schedules, medications, and side effects. The physical toll of cancer treatment was compounded by the overwhelming amount of information and decisions that needed to be handled. Iselin decided to create something that was not just a product, but a meaningful solution shaped by her lived experience, a direct response to a need she encountered every day.

The Creation of The Cancerkit: Structure Meets Practical Support

The Cancerkit is defined by its thoughtful balance of medical organization and emotional support. Unlike traditional planners or medical notebooks, The Cancerkit was intentionally designed to meet the unique needs of cancer patients. Each section helps patients manage their treatment and stay organized, including spaces for tracking medications, doctor appointments, and side effects. Equally important, there are sections for journaling and emotional reflection, which allow patients to process their experiences and feelings without feeling overwhelmed.

Providing Realistic Emotional Support

The Cancerkit avoids the trap of “toxic positivity” often found in wellness products for cancer patients. It does not minimize the difficulty of cancer treatment, instead offering practical support that acknowledges the emotional and mental challenges patients face. Its goal is to offer a tool that makes the journey more manageable, helping patients stay organized and focused without unrealistic expectations.

A Growing Movement Toward Compassionate Healthcare Tools

Today, The Cancerkit has found a place in the lives of cancer patients worldwide, from the US to the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Loved ones often gift it as a thoughtful and practical way to support someone during cancer treatment.

Iselin’s vision for The Cancerkit centres on creating more compassionate, survivor-driven tools in healthcare. “The Cancerkit wasn’t created to make cancer feel positive. It was created to make it feel more manageable,” she says. This approach has resonated deeply with patients who find comfort and support in its structured design.

The Cancerkit: Best Cancer Treatment Journal for Patients in the US 2025

The Cancerkit was recently named Best Cancer Treatment Journal for Patients in the US 2025 by Best of Best Review. This recognition reflects The Cancerkit’s practical approach to supporting patients through treatment, combining clear medical organization with realistic emotional support.

What Makes The Cancerkit Unique?

It doesn’t shy away from the difficulties of treatment, instead it helps patients feel more prepared for their medical conversations, more confident in managing their care, and less isolated in the process.

“I wanted to create something that would help people feel supported, not overwhelmed,” Iselin says. “Cancer patients don’t need more things to worry about. They need something that helps them navigate the challenges.”

Empowering Cancer Patients with Practical Support

The Cancerkit is more than just a journal; it’s a tool designed to help cancer patients stay organized, manage their care, and reflect on their emotional experiences. It reflects a growing shift toward survivor-led, patient-centered tools designed to make cancer treatment more manageable.

Shaped by lived experience and designed to be practical and easy to use, the journal provides a clear system that helps patients feel more prepared and less overwhelmed.

By combining practical organization with emotional reflection, it offers meaningful support to those navigating treatment.
